It's early on Sunday afternoon and the big, busy birthday weekend has officially quieted down. Mariam and I went out this morning to buy flower seeds for the yard (i.e. flower seeds for the birds to eat out of my yard...) and are planning some yard work and animal cracker making for the afternoon.
My girl's birthday was lovely this year. Chinese food with grandma for birthday dinner on Friday, a party in the park with many cupcakes and even more friends and family on Saturday and coming home to open some very fun and thoughtful gifts.
Every year I fight with myself a bit over the issue of party favors. I'm not a huge fan of the traditional party favor system whereby everyone gets a little bag of random plastic bits that their parents accidentally suck up with the vacuum cleaner a few days later. Last year my solution was to give these, but this year I needed something less involved since we were having a bigger shin-dig with quite a few more kiddos. I used these instructions from Ordinary Life Magic to put together kite making kits for each kid to take home.
